Falstaff Wine Guide 2021/22

The sparkling wine Lamm N°12 Extra Brut was awarded 93 points in the Falstaff Wine Guide 2021/22 and even named Sparkling Wine of the Year in the Sparkling category. From zero to hero. Is that not a good omen?

From zero to 100

Here is Othmar Kiem's and Simon Staffler's tasting note:

Bright, radiant straw yellow, persistent perlage. Fragrant nose of white peach and apple, a hint of pear, acacia blossom, sea salt. On the palate, with present, well-integrated perlage, with a light fruit melt, elegantly and finely pulls itself over the tongue, balanced, sparkling clean finish.

Text Falstaff Wine Guide 2021/22:

The perlage is back in Cornaiano! The Winkler sparkling winery was founded in 1977 by Helmuth Winkler, who ran it until 2001. Unfortunately, he fell seriously ill in the same year and could no longer continue the business. For 16 years, the production slumbered in a Sleeping Beauty sleep and waited for its relaunch. Instead of gently kissing the business awake, son Michael Winkler, his wife Verena and their children Maximilian and Anna-Katharina actively shook the foundations in 2017 and founded the Sektmanufaktur Winkler.

Their declared goal: to supply South Tyrol and the world with high quality, hand-riddled sparkling wines. Together with oenologist and friend Stefan Donà, he painstakingly set out to find the right varieties in the right locations, which he found scattered throughout South Tyrol at altitudes of over 580 metres above sea level. The range of grape varieties currently consists of 70 per cent Chardonnay, 20 per cent Pinot Noir and 10 per cent Pinot Blanc. There is currently only one product in the portfolio, the sparkling wine "Lamm N° 12". Thirty per cent of the base wine for this product is aged for nine months in barriques, which gives it a beautiful creaminess and suspense. Lamm N°12 is also the address of the remarkable in-house sparkling wine lounge in the wine village of Cornaiano, where the Winkler family serves its fine sparkling wines.
